Web application design & development
What is a web application?
In software engineering, a web application is an application that is accessed via a web browser over a network such as the Internet or an intranet. The term may also mean a computer software application that is hosted in a browser-controlled environment (e.g. a Java applet, a Flash interface, etc.) or coded in a browser-supported language (such as JavaScript, Active Server Pages, Coldfusion, etc. combined with a browser-rendered markup language like HTML) and reliant on a common web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) to render the application executable. (This description was in part taken from wikipedia.org - you can access the page here)
Why is a web application such a important / beneficial tool for your business?
Web applications are popular due to the ubiquity of web browsers, and the convenience of using a web browser as a client, sometimes called a thin client. The ability to update and maintain information in web applications without distributing and installing software on potentially thousands of client computers is a key reason for their popularity, as is the inherent support for cross-platform compatibility. Common web applications include webmail, online retail sales (ecommerce), online auctions, wikis, content management systems and many other functions.
Also, browser / web applications typically require little or no disk space on the client side, upgrade / expansions with new features, integrate easily into other web procedures, such as email and searching, to name a few.
What important considerations need to be addressed to deploy a successful web application?
1. Your target audience / users and the core function of the application (will it be used in-house / locally on a internal network (eg: project / production management, point-of-sale, etc.) or should it be available globally (eg: web site, online / retail sales (ecommerce), CRM (customer relation management)?)
2. Security (protect sensitive information from hackers / unauthorized users (storage tier))
3. Administrative depth (where and how flexibility and maintainability is important)
4. Usability and scalability of the application (user friendly interface / presentation tier, application tier and availability, standard compliance (for browsers and online deployment))
5. Information / application response time
You need to know that utilizing the best database system on the planet cannot guarantee a successful application (whether open source or commercial). Only extensive integration, development and interface experience can guarantee this.
We can design and develop applications for a wide range of business and data levels, such as Enterprise Level, Department Level, Workgroup/Team Level and Individual and Small Groups. We also maintain applications build with most available scripting languages (such as ASP, ASP.NET, ColdFusion, JSP/Java, PHP etc.)
